I love the mechanics, like bouncing enemies off wall and juggling them, specials and how you have to earn the health back. I have never been a dedicated player of one game in my whole 33 years of gaming, but this game has me coming back for more daily or weekly. I think the whole making the game bit easier and fun was for the best in the end. I am so glad they did listen to us noobs and nerfed the more disgusting aspects of enemies and gave a suite of buffs to characters like Axel and Floyd. I remember how hardcore Mania players wanted it to remain the same and no changes to those enemies. Yes I didn't know how to effectively play it either, but some of the enemies were just obnoxious. But I LOVE SoR4.Īfter they nerfs to enemies and buffs to characters I like to use, the game became REALLY good. I haven't played the Streets of Rage Remake. The added movesets and blitzes to characters that didn't have them are pretty fun too, especially seeing how many of the sprites were created from scratch to stay as faithful to their iterations as possible Makes the game feel a little more fluid, but especially makes playing 1's cast more fun now that they aren't limited to what they were in their original games. I loved how Remake gave everyone the ability to run (which you can switch off), including the old characters. I would play using the retro soundtrack at first but had to switch to the default track because the game gear tracks would ruin the immersion and change the feeling of the game, if that makes sense. My only gripes with 4 is how differently 3's characters handles compared to their original games (rolls aren't instant, certain blitz moves have different hit timings, that weird slippery stop when running) and the fact that they excluded 3's soundtrack and instead opted for the game gear tracks instead. The new route added in 5.2 (or was it 5.1? can't remember) is pretty fun too and doesn't detract from the overall style of 1-3 enough to feel like it was meant to be in the official games. 4 has some great merits like an actual combo system and not having to worry about enemies going off-screen (thanks to wall bounce) but Remake's nostalgia factor is way higher for me and just feels more fluid. I like both, although I tend to find myself playing Remake more than 4.
